生成AIには根本的な制約があるのではないか。それは「気づかない」ということだ。
たとえば、A問題で行き詰まっている時に、数日前に考えていたB問題が突然結びついて解決の糸口が見える。一見無関係に思えた二つの問題が、ある瞬間に繋がって「そうか！」となる。あるいは、それまで考えていたことと全く異なる観点に発想が飛ぶ。人間にはこういう体験がある。
しかし生成AIにはこれがない。そのような連想を促すプロンプトを明示的に与えない限り、過去の異なる文脈で処理した情報と現在の問題を自発的に結びつけることはできない。
この特性は、創造力や想像力を要する仕事に大きな影響を与えるかもしれない。翻訳などもその一つだろう。優れた翻訳は、言語の壁を越えて異なる文化的背景を結びつける「気づき」を必要とするからだ。
Is there not a fundamental limitation to generative AI? Namely, that it doesn’t notice things.
For instance, when we’re stuck on Problem A, an idea from Problem B—something we thought about days earlier—may suddenly resurface and connect, revealing a path forward. Two seemingly unrelated issues can, in a flash, come together with an “Aha!” realization. Or, we may leap unexpectedly to an entirely new perspective, completely unrelated to what we had been thinking. These are moments of spontaneous insight that human beings experience.
But generative AI doesn’t do this. Unless it is explicitly prompted to make such a connection, it cannot spontaneously link information processed in different contexts in the past to the current problem at hand.
This limitation could significantly affect work that requires creativity or imagination. Translation is one such example. Outstanding translation depends on noticing—on intuitively connecting different cultural contexts across language barriers. It’s exactly this kind of sudden, unprompted awareness that generative AI lacks.
