My Son's Bonus day

Yesterday was my son's bonus payday. Shortly after starting his job, he excitedly exclaimed, "I got it!" In response, I enthusiastically said, "Great job!" His bashful giggle was the perfect reaction.

By evening, he was not at home, so I asked my wife, "Where has he gone?"

"He said he's going to celebrate because he received his bonus today." When I asked who he was celebrating with, my wife simply replied, "I don't know." However, he returned home while we were having dinner.

I said, "You're back early. Were you having dinner with someone?"

"No, I ate alone. I treated myself to a feast as a reward," he replied.

Curious, I asked, "So, what did you eat?"

"I had a set meal at Ootoya(a Japanese casual dining chain )!" he exclaimed.

"And the bill was?"

"900 yen(USD 6.24 )!"

"That's all?"

"Yes, that's it. Oh, it was so good," he said.

"Didn't you at least have a beer to celebrate?"

"No, I didn't."

In my mind, I thought, "That's being too frugal by an order of magnitude."

I'm not sure whether to feel happy or sad. However, we have decided that next time, he will use his bonus to buy sushi, and we'll all visit my mother's house (his grandmother's house).

Congratulations, son.
